Principal's Message

Dear Discovery friends and families,

This school year has provided so many amazing events and family activities, along with rigorous academic learning in the classroom. We have celebrated new students, families, and staff members joining the Discovery Lab School and we're building new positive relationships with every addition.

This past year we continued our partnership with CWU students and their science department to enhance our students' science learning.

Every day in every classroom you will see learning opportunities facilitated by caring and highly qualified teachers available to assist students in their academic requirements, as well as other areas of support. It is a tremendous advantage to have first through eighth grades here in one facility, enabling students to grow and learn with a classroom of peers and to experience many multi-age, project-based lessons and connections. Our Discovery Lab community, where "everyone knows your name," is a great place to develop friendships and reach your individual potential.

We have added three STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) classes to our Middle School schedule.  Our wonderful Mrs. Noble started the Green Team, a group of dedicated students and others who are making a difference for the earth, and reducing Discovery's Carbon Footprint.  We are now a Level 1 Green School (one of 12 schools in Washington state).  The Green Team won a first place Yakima Youth Award for service to the community. We welcome parent involvement in our school and foster that community spirit every day at Discovery Lab School. There are Discovery Family Connection meetings monthly, at which all parents are encouraged to come and participate with other families to enhance our school's parent involvement and initiate school-wide events. Discovery Lab's Site Council and our student A.S.B. meet to facilitate opportunities such as new student/family welcoming, assisting with school safety issues, technology integration, academic achievement, and many other activities.

It is an honor and privilege to serve as the principal for Discovery Lab School.  I look forward to each day with its opportunities and educational experiences as the students reach their successes and dreams. If you have any questions, I am available to assist (573-5401).
