Principal's Message

For all McKinley Families – May is a month that goes by fast and brings many of the year’s activities to an end.  This month our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders take the MSP tests for reading, math, science, and writing.  This is the last year of our paper-and-pencil tests.  In May of 2013 our students will take the MSP online in our new computer lab.  The lab is installed, up, and running now so we’ll have plenty of time to practice and learn better computer skills!  The McKinley spring math assessments and DIBELS (reading) assessments are also scheduled.  These give us valuable individual student progress information that we use to plan placement and interventions for each child.  It is very important that each child be in school rested and ready to do their best.

The school year ends on Wednesday, June 13th, at noon.  Once the campus is cleared, all teachers will have a few hours to clear and check out for the summer.  Until that time, school is not over.  As the famous Yogi Bera once said, “it ain’t over ‘til it’s over!”  For us at McKinley that means full days of school right to the end.  We must keep up the pace of learning, follow behavior standards and be in school on time ready to learn every day right to the end.  Success does not come without effort.

Please check the calendar in this newsletter for important special end-of-year events.

Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program:

McKinley has been chosen to be one of the Yakima School District schools to participate in a program to introduce new fruits and vegetables to students.  Each day, each classroom will receive a bowl of fruit or veggies for students to try.   Following is a list of what will be available this week. Website links will provide additional information about the selection for that day.  Please ask your children what new foods they tried at school each day.
