Our Philosophy is:

Participation, performance, and competition in the athletic program will focus on the opportunity for students to develop and exhibit skills to the bbest of their abilities without pressures to determine individual or group superiority and equal value placed on each activity.

Goals of the program:

Goals are to build self-esteem, develop skills, expand interests leading to lifetime leisure activities, provide opportunities for personal and social growth, and encourage all students to participate.

Athletic Program Guidelines:

Athletics will be structured on the "all-must-play" concept.  Squads will be limited by size so that all students may play.  Every eligible squad member has minimum playing time and suit-up guidelines that must be observed.  All teams will be balanced by ability with homogeneous group or grade levels, depending on the sport.

Competition shall be confined to the Yakima School District , except in the sport of girls bowling which may include participation by the West Valley School District .

Practice & Games:

Practice and/ or games will not exceed four days per week.  Practices are from 2:45 PM- 5:00 Pm. Practices and games will not be held on Mondays.

Transportation:

Transportation to and from contests will be provided by school bus from Franklin , Lewis & Clark , Washington , and Wilson Middle Schools .

Uniforms:

The school will supply each athlete withthe basic uniform.  Only school issued uniforms can be worn at games or game sites.  It is the responsibility of the athlete to keep the uniform neat and clean.  Athletes are liable for replacement cost if the uniform is lost or damaged.

Athletic Contest Eligibility:

All athletes who meet practice, team and scholastic eligibility requirements, will have the opportunity to participate in games, but coaches have the right to exclude an athlete from participation in athletic contests for the following reasons:

  • Poor attendance to practices
  • Did not attend all classes on the day of the contest
  • Poor sportsmanship/attitude during practice or contests
  • Inadequate physical conditioning level

Eligibility Policy:

Athletes must have on file the following:

  • Student athlete contract, information, insurance from (each year)
  • Physical (every two years from date of physical)
  • Notice of risk form (each sport)
  • Medical release from signed (each sport)
  • Pay to Participate form (each sport)
  • Concussion form (each sport)

All forms must be filled out completely and a parent signature is required on each form.

Scholastic Eligibility:

Athletes must maintain a "C" in effort in all classes during the sport season.

Code of Conduct:

Athletes must remember that when they are wearing the school uniform they are representing their school, their community, and their families, and that they will be expected to conduct themselves with that in mind.  Good sportsmanship and polite behavior towards other coaches, athletes, officials, bus drivers, and anyone with whom the athletes may come in contact will be a requirement.
